These are newer in design and can be very expensive. This type of bathroom sink sits on top of the counter and only comes with a drain hole. The faucets for a vessel sink are much taller and stand alone. I have seen I style of vessel sink that the faucets are part of the sink, but still need a hole drilled for the faucet lines in the counter top.

These are basically the same. This differs from the above in that the bathroom sink sits under a slab of granite. This is a very nice way to finish off a bathroom sink, and well worth the cost.
