The first thing to do is to register your company, and your company name. Here in Edmonton, Alberta you just go to any registries office and pay the fee to be registered. Then decide on whether you want to be incorporated or not.

The second step is to get all of your office supplies, letter head, invoices, logo, business cards, thank-cards, bank accounts, phone lines, cellular phone, fax line, mail box, and anything else that will help with your small consulting business. Like a bookkeeper, or are you doing that yourself? Or an Edmonton accountant, and Edmonton Legal services. Of course if you are not from Edmonton this information still works just use these services from your area.

Starting a Small Consulting Business Step 3

This third step is the one I love. Marketing. Now you need to get clients for your small consulting business. There is a couple of ways to do this. Start by doing a mail out to the clients that need your type of consulting. Or pick up the phone and call on businesses that could use your consulting services. This is what I did, picked up the phone and within 3 hours had 3 good clients that stayed with me for the 5 years I was in business.
